[Lisbon, Portugal, 10 February 2015] Huawei and Sport Lisboa e Benfica, one of the greatest European football clubs, today signed an Official Technological Partnership for the next two years. Huawei will be working with Benfica to enhance the fans’ experience and explore innovation opportunities.
The agreement between Huawei and Benfica, which makes Huawei the “Official Technological Partner of Benfica”, will see the two partners collaborate on better uses of ICT to help supporters and members make the most out of their football experience.
Mr Ji Rengui, CEO of Huawei Portugal & Spain, declared: “We are delighted to sign this partnership for the next two years with Benfica. This partnership will contribute greatly to opening a new framework for technological possibilities in Benfica’s stadium and generating greater value for sports and for business”.
One of the key projects of this partnership is the implementation of Huawei’s Agile Stadium Solution, which enables Benfica to improve the interactive experience for fans and create a better connected stadium.
This partnership will involve Huawei’s high-density Wi-Fi technology, New Generation Data Centre solutions, IT infrastructure such as power solutions at Benfica’s home ground, the Estádio da Luz and smartphones, tablets and other consumer products supply. Its training centre, the Caixa Futebol Campus, will also benefit from the deployment of smart ICT.
“Huawei’s Agile Stadium Solution guarantees improved data center efficiency and future cloud computing and virtualization requirements, enhancing Benfica’s technological capabilities and bringing added value to all,” said Mr Pedro Ferreira, Country Director of Huawei Portugal. “Huawei aims to create a better connected world and to show its continued and sustainable commitment to Portuguese society. Benfica is a leading brand, with national and international prestige, and with an excellent relationship with its fans. It is a great chance to grow together in this fruitful partnership.”
To comply with future cloud computing and virtualisation requirements, to improve data centre efficiency, and to control investment costs, Benfica selected Huawei’s IDS2000 modular data centre solution, which offers fast deployment, energy savings, flexible expansion and intelligent management.
Domingos Soares de Oliveira, CEO from SL Benfica, said about the partnership: “The fan experience is one of our top priorities. We are very pleased to be able to provide our members and fans with high-speed WiFi in the near future. We will do that without moving the focus from the most important thing: the match on the pitch. Moreover, I´m sure that we are starting a long and fruitful relationship with Huawei, one of the leading technological companies in the world.”
With a 10-year presence in Portugal and a number of projects implemented with the key Portuguese operators and enterprise customers, and a consumer brand growing in the market landscape, this new partnership deepens Huawei’s sustainable commitment to Portugal.
ICT has come to play an important role for the ‘connected’ football fan of today, and this trend is likely to gather speed in the future. With this in mind, Huawei is extending a helping hand to a range of European football clubs.
Sharing with the fans its passion for football, for victory, and for healthy competition, Huawei’s European football partnerships currently include Ajax/Amsterdam Arena, Arsenal, Madrid, Glasgow Rangers, Paris St Germain, Dortmund/BVB, Milan and La Liga.
